Bestival

To get my festival fix for the year I took a few days out of reality and headed down to the Isle of Wight with some friends. This years theme was “wildlife”, I took the flora based direction and went as the humble banana. My costume of choice allowed me to tease a lot of hungry apes and chimps which was one of the many highlights.

For a music festival I didn’t really see a lot acts but some stand outs were Gina Safari, First Aid Kit and of course XX.

Barcelona for the weekend

Seeing as though London wasn’t putting a much of a summer Diana and I decided to get our sunshine for the weekend in Barcelona. It was the first time I’ve been there and fell in love with the place. I think having a beach within walking distance helped a lot. While there we ate and drunk as much as we could, I will be going back next summer.

Flotilla on Regents Canal

A day before the Queen’s pageant parade down the Thames some smart little cookies decided to part-take in their own flotilla of fun. Starting up Angel way and ending at Broadway Market this was something I didn’t want to miss out on.  Sadly I was lacking any means of floatation but that didn’t stop me, Diana and Ash from joining in shore-side.

Göteborg for the weekend

I just spent the weekend on Goteborg, Sweden with Diana. It’s the first time I’ve been to the city and found it to be a top little place. The sun always shines when I’m in the country so I think I have a bit of a distorted view of the place. Two definite highlights were a trip to some islands (which I have already forgotten their names) and a visit to a local swimming lake.

Cycling to Bruges

Over the long weekend Ben, Scott and I decided to ride to Brugge. We caught an earlier train from London to Dover and then jumped on a ferry to Calais. What met us on the Continent was anything but nice weather. It was a constant slog in continual rain made worse by strong head on winds. We didn’t really know the way (we thought we’d just hung the coast) and kept getting lost, at some points even having to cross train tracks and creeks. All combined marked its toll on our spirits.

When we crossed from France to Belgium Ben got a rear puncher which marked the end of our efforts. Accepting defeat we jumped on a tram then a train and where in Brugge enjoying a beer within two hours (you’ve got to love the European public transport).

All up we spent two nights there and had a great time exploring the city. Highlight one was definitely the all-you-can-eat ribs that left all three of us extremely dehydrated due to their excessive salt content. And highlight two was the unexpected fun we had on the second night at the central carnival. I wonder where I’ll be riding to next year…

Working at The Tower of London

Today’s my first day working at The Tower of London, a friend of mine, Chris who I didn’t Spanish lessons with hooked me up with the gig. I have to be honest it is kind of cool working at there even though I’m just selling audio guides (and it is bloody cold).
